Today a friend and I hiked into the Dominguez Canyon wilderness area off the Gunnison River. The trail follows train tracks along the river gorge for about a half mile before turning into the Little Dominguez canyon. The sheer rock walls are streaked with desert varnish and huge boulders litter the area. Big horn sheep are known to frequent the area, so keep we kept our eyes peeled as we entered the wilderness area. About 3 1/2 miles in there is a collection of petroglyphs on several of the patina covered boulders. Would love to know more about these people and their art.
